A micronation made a virtual world so that ALL its citizens can meet online... ... and as an added benefit, avoid local police arresting them. Honestly, this is one of the most unique uses of the metaverse I have seen so far in 2022, and potentially ever. Basically, Liberland is a strip of abandoned land that was claimed by a Czech MP with ambitions for statehood. It is NOT recognised as an official country, though it has 7,000 approved residents with 700,000 more applications being processed. Announced in April, it is the first time a country is offering a hybrid of both the physical and virtual to its citizens, designed and supported by Mytaverse over this year. 'We're building a dynamic space where we can continue to contribute to the economic development of Liberland and let citizens feel the urban development progress,' said Vit Jedlicka, President of Liberland. 'Liberland Metaverse will be our citizens' virtual home, drawing all our engaged communities together in an enriched extension of our country.' The problem here is that it is not recognised as an official nation. It sits between Serbia and Croatia, as a 7km2 patch of land that is still disputed by both countries. A virtual world means citizens can come together, but it is also one way to avoid getting arrested by Croatian police. It is cool to see a country offer a virtual world to every citizen, even if the scale is smaller. But the surrounding political elements are incredible. Liberland has existed since 2015, and is the third-smallest sovereign state; I wonder how many tourists it in the virtual world? LIBERLAND DIPLOMATIC PASSPORT TO BE RECOGNIZED IN COLUMBIA Liberland? The world’s newest and 3rd smallest sovereign state after the Vatican and Monaco. This means: ·      A Liberlander needs no other document to book or check in at a hotel, purchase goods or go to a restaurant. ·      The passport is also reported as valid for travel within Mercosur. (Mercosur operates on a one-for-all policy, wherein if a passport holder receives a visa or stamp from one member country, they are granted visa-free access to the other nations within the compact.) The Colombian senate agreed to hold continued talks with discussions for the ultimate aim of opening a formal embassy and securing full passport recognition. Here are 3 things I have learned so far in #Dubai while visiting GITEX GLOBAL. 1. The most successful cities in the future will have everything connected to the internet. Cameras and sensors everywhere transmiting data to their #digitaltwin. That is, a digital replica of the city in the metaverse. That will allow cities to be managed more efficiently. #data #future #iot 2. #digitaltwins will not only be made for cities. They're already being built for whole counties. Elon Musk just surprised everyone by revealing the first prototype of 'Tesla Optimus'. "Our goal is to make a useful humanoid robot as quickly as possible” It’s still very early days for this field of robotics - and it’s hard to tell how much of this is hype - but Musk and his team delivered a fascinating demonstration with Tesla’s engineers going into quite a lot of details about the technical specs and capabilities. Musk also claimed the Tesla Optimus robot could hit a price of "probably less than $20,000", calling it “the most important product development we're doing this year" and "a fundamental transformation for civilization as we know it". Musk is famous for his history of ‘out there’ moonshot ideas that quickly disappear… but some succeed, and Tesla is - arguably - the worlds largest robotics company already. The timelines are highly questionable… but there’s no doubt robotics are coming. I came to visit Jefferson’s memorial to seek some wisdom and to find courage to move Liberland to higher levels. Liberland was founded on 272nd birthday of Thomas Jefferson for a reason. Liberland seeks to follow Jeffersonian foreign policy as well as his legacy: "Laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times."

This week will be packed. I’m heading out now with Finance Minister Navid Saberin to Davos, Switzerland to rally support for Liberland among the world’s top minds and influencers. Then, it’s on to Washington, D.C. with our Foreign Minister Thomas Walls at the Government Blockchain Association to introduce Liberland and our message to U.S. policymakers. Next up is a visit to a Caribbean country that has opened diplomatic channels with Liberland. Our Vice President, Bogie Wozniak, will accompany me there. At the same time, our Secretary of State Dr Tariq Abbasi MBE FRSA is organising major business event in London and Minister of Justice Michal Ptáčník speaks at a blockchain event in Armenia. We are also about to finalize membership of Liberland in a respected intergovernmental humanitarian organisation, which will open a number of new diplomatic doors for us.
